2022 R0 Riesling

Riesling
Coal River Valley, Tasmania
11.7% / 750ml

Very light colour with green tints; a lifted and attractive dried wildflower and mandarin aroma, the palate very dry and racy, with crisp but balanced acidity and delicate palate weight. Searing dryness that persists long, all promising to evolve into a very smart wine with time.[…].- Huon Hooke

$43

The wine has a light straw colour with hints of green, typical of young crispy riesling. Complex aromas with notes of preserved lime, dried rose petals, and pear. There is also a hint of Cox's orange crunch. The palate is clean and refreshing, with a vibrant acidity and a citrus fruit. The wine has a long finish, with flavors that linger on the palate.

Tasting Notes

Pale with green tinges. On the nose, preserved lime, dried rose petal and pear. A Cox’s orange crunch. Clean and clear palate; vibrant and juicy with great length.

Winemakers Notes

After selective picking, the fruit is gently bag pressed and cold settled for 48 hours. Post racking, the juice is inoculated with a neutral yeast and fermented at cool temperatures for around three weeks. After the fermentation the wine spends around 6-8 weeks on lees before being prepared for bottling.

Vintage Notes

The 2022 Tasmanian vintage was a modest one, like 2021 but with better and higher yields than 2020. A warm and dry spring was followed by a significant amount of rainfall towards the end of summer. Despite this, it was an overall good year, with exceptional fruit grown across the Coal River Valley.
